Before I begin, let me say that I love the little doodle toys put out by Crayola. I didn't currently have any on hand today when my son showed a persistent interest in his older sisters crayons, hence the home-made version!
We have tons of these tiny little stuffed creatures hidden in corners and cubbies all over the house! I think this is a great way to get a little more use out of them! The toy (in this case, Mr. Rooster) makes the crayon easier for my 11-month old to hold and discover how to make marks, and it suprisingly broke his urge to put the crayon in his mouth! Oh, my son, the things I pull from your mouth...but that's another post! This is also a great way to start introducing colors to tiny tots, in this example, matching a red crayon to a red toy.
The way I attached the crayon is very simple. I think I'll let Mr. Rooster have a go at the tutorial...
"Yes, I am the same size as the crayon. Your point being?"
"Oh, this can't be good!"
"You know, it's not very nice to slice holes in things and shove in pointy objects!"
"Oh, that's kind of nice! Now I feel all warm inside!"
"I should think you would stitch me up after all that!"
"Finally! A way to communicate without the sore throat every morning!"
Now go gather up all of those toys, a box of crayons, and Doodle Buddy up!
